As the Design Assistant, your primary responsibility is to work collaboratively with the designer and design team to assist with day to day roles and responsibilities.This role supports the designers to focus on driving the handwriting, taste levels and product desirability of the department to exceed customer expectations and grow incremental sales.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Liaise with suppliers on all aspects of product development to ensure on-time delivery and quality standards.Follow up and assist with approvals and sample submissions from suppliers.Attend all fittings with Designer, creation on ongoing processes.Collaborate with multiple stakeholders.Work closely with the design team to develop new and exciting styles for the range.Communicate regularly on any production issues/shortfalls throughout all stages of the process, ensuring we are minimizing any impact to the critical path.Support the overall end to end function of the design team.Contribute to trend research and collate trend boards.Assist with trend-related activities and tasks i.e. Colour palettes, samples.Support the Designer with range board creation and upkeep.Assist with range board release to suppliers.Support design in range sign offs and preparing samples and relevant items for ranging and development.Work with designer to coordinate the sourcing of fabrics and trims in line with the design brief.Supplier Management for all design samples and chasing samples for Range sign off.Ongoing update management to option plan.Support with technical drawings and must be proficient in Adobe Illustrator and CAD.Assist with style briefs, tech packs, and creative briefs.Liaise with the designer to receive and comment on fabric qualities, lab dips, prints, trims etc. within the required production time allocated for the approval process.Support Designer on providing feedback on strike-offs, lab dips, trims and design samples.Assist in creating, maintaining and documentation of product development lifecycle and PLM system.What are we looking for?The ideal candidates will have a tertiary qualification in Tertiary Design Degree or Diploma with at least 2+ years experience in Graphic Design, Surface Pattern, Illustration Design or similar, in a specialty retail environment.You will have the following knowledge, skills and qualifications:Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, CAD and LAB dips including Microsoft Suite.Ability to complete tech packs and create accurate technical specification drawings.Knowledge of construction and technical skills related to the area of product development.Understanding Critical Path and ability to work to milestones.Creative and exceptional eye for design and detail.Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.What will you get?Target has some great benefits, including:Great career opportunities across the Wesfarmers Group.Team Member discounts across Target, Kmart, Bunnings and Officeworks.A free One Pass membership offering free delivery across Kmart and Target on eligible products.Access to Employee Assistance Program.Convenient location next to freeway and train station, with free onsite parking and a caf!Novated leasing options.Paid parental leave scheme.Flexible hybrid work arrangements through our Flex Where, Flex When, Flex Well policy, spending 60% of your week in our Target Store Support Office (including Work-From-Home days with a real work-life balance).Reflection room, space for prayer, meditation, or time for yourself.A Supported Learning and Career Development program.Opportunity in Wesfarmers Share Plan access (where eligible) and to participate in a bonus program (where eligible).We celebrate the rich diversity of the communities in which we operate.
