RMIT is seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join a groundbreaking project that merges solar energy, photocatalysis, and green hydrogen production.About the RoleThis role supports a recently funded ARENA project: "Solar-Energy-Driven Modular Floatable Device for Scalable Green Hydrogen Production from Wastewater." The project aims to develop a large-scale, floatable device powered entirely by natural sunlight that can purify wastewater, degrade organic pollutants, and produce green hydrogen all in one step.Youll work on designing and testing catalytic membranes that combine photocatalytic and photothermal processes to maximise solar energy utilisation. The research focuses on overcoming current limitations in solar accessibility and helping green hydrogen reach a competitive cost target of $2.50/kg.Key Responsibilities:Conduct research on the synergy between photocatalysis and solar thermal effects.Design, fabricate, and test composite catalysts and membranes.Contribute to the scale-up, manufacturing, and real-world deployment of floatable solar-powered devices.Collaborate with academic and industry partners and contribute to project publications and reporting.To be successful in this position, youll have:Evidence of research output including publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field.Ability to generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.Demonstrated high level of communication skills.Qualifications:Mandatory: Qualification in the relevant discipline area preferably at postgraduate level.Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.About the RMIT School of ScienceThe School of Science delivers excellence in applied research and education, engaging in strong impactful industry partnerships and producing skilled, industry-ready graduates.The School employs over 120 academic and 60 FTE research staff across five academic Disciplines (Applied Chemistry and Environmental Sciences; Biosciences and Food Technology; Geospatial Sciences, Mathematical Sciences; Physics).The School has a diverse research portfolio across science and mathematics with international research excellence in quantum science technologies, advanced materials chemistry and catalysis solutions and in water science, systems and sustainability; in addition to emerging strengths in geospatial technologies, mathematics and future food technologies.
