Job Goal/Primary Purpose:The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative support, transportation planning, and safety coordination for the school district''s transportation operations.Minimum Qualifications:Minimum of High school diploma or GED equivalent.Valid State of Maine Criminal History Records Check approval.Experience in use of a variety of technology, including dispatching and scheduling preferred.Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups, including parents, and various school and department staff.Knowledge of bus standards and repair and maintenance procedures or willingness to learn.Valid Maine drivers license.Essential Functions (Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities):Administrative Duties:Monitor and document bus operator check-ins for A.M./midday/P.M. runsUtilize the master schedule of all trips, early dismissals and leaves to support daily dispatch functionsUse computer application software for tracking and recordkeepingClerical duties as assignedPerform verbal transmissions in a clear, calm and concise mannerForward route, safety, and student behavior concerns to Transportation Director/SupervisorTransportation Planning & Coordination:Assist in the implementation of school transportation policies, state/federal lawsUse BusRight to plan and organize regular routes, field trips, extracurricular activitiesWork with Transportation Director/Supervisor to adjust daily driver/aide assignmentsTransmit route information to unassigned regular and substitute driversSafety & Training:Help facilitate required inspections and driver training programsAssist in emergency evacuation drills and safety training for schools and busesObtain and relay factual information to assist bus operators in emergency situationsOther Responsibilities:Maintain positive and effective communication with school personnel and students.Participate in meetings as requested by the Transportation Director in reference to student transportation or transportation staff.Perform other tasks relevant to the Transportation department as assigned by the Transportation Director.Compensation and Terms of Employment: Salary and work year determined by the Superintendent.Note: This job description reflects the general requirements necessary to describe this jobs functions and responsibilities and shall not be interpreted as a detailed description of all work requirements that may be inherent in the job.Equal Opportunity:The Saco School Department is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
