There is also provision for multiple doctors to share this role, working across both the Palliative Care Unit and the Manly Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice (AYAH).Where You''ll Be WorkingThe Palliative Care Unit (PCU) is a 10 bed facility, able to accommodate public, private and DVA patients. The PCU facility will provide short-term holistic care for patients with life-limiting illnesses at various times in their illness trajectories.The Manly Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice (AYAH) provides specialised and designated support to Adolescents and Young Adults between the ages of 16-30 years old with life limiting illnesses. It is the first facility of its type in Australia.Purpose of the PositionPerforming the clinical duties of a staff specialist in palliative care focusing on delivery of inpatient services and providing outpatient palliative care services, as well as implementation of and participation in palliative medicine education and research. The position is part of the Supportive and Palliative Care Network. Ongoing quality assurance activities at the Departmental, Divisional and District levels and additionally as directed by the Director of Medical Services and Director of Clinical Governance.The Palliative Care Unit (PCU) will provide comprehensive medical, nursing and allied health care based on the unique needs of the patient, their family and carers. When the patient is facing a life-limiting prognosis, aspects of care might include:Symptom managementSocial and emotional supportHigh quality end of life carePlanning for discharge from hospital to homeThe Manly AYAH is a centre of excellence for palliative care and supportive care, and seeks to provide exceptional experience to patients, carers, family, and friends of patients.This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).This position is temporary with the possibility of temporary extension based on performance, funding and need.Selection CriteriaMBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
