They must be well organised, flexible and enjoy working with students.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESThe key responsibilities of the Library Assistant role include (but are not limited to):Assisting and supplying students and teachers with books: Helping to locate books that match reading levels, interests and or class assignments.Checking in and out materials: Scanning and processing books, textbooks, and other materials that students or teachers borrow including renewals and following up overdue books.Reshelving returned books: Ensuring that books are properly sorted and shelved according to the librarys cataloguing system.Maintaining the Library space: Ensuring all areas are clean and tidy and ready for student and staff use at all times.Maintaining displays: Creating and assisting with the setting up of displays of student work, for new books, themed collections, or projects related to holidays or school events.Assisting with reading programs and lunchtime activities: Organising reading incentive programs, such as the Premiers Reading Challenge.Managing events: Organising and setting up for library events like book fairs, author visits, Book Week and special events like National Simultaneous Storytime.Assisting with library technology: Helping students and staff use library computers, online catalogues, and digital resources. Operate and provide assistance with photocopiers, scanners, and other equipment.Ordering and processing new books and materials: Assist with ordering and upon arrival, cataloguing, covering, labelling, and organising books for circulation.Book Club: Managing the delivery of catalogues to classrooms, student orders and delivery of goods.Repairing books: Fixing damaged books or ensuring books are in good condition for circulation.Stocktake: Assist with the completion of stocktake.Other: Perform data entry and other administrative tasks as directed.Any other tasks as required by the Principal or their delegate.QUALIFICATIONSRelevant industry experience and/or qualifications are highly desirable, but not essential.Current or willingness to obtain:Working with Children Check (required)First Aid certificateNational Coordinated Criminal History CheckEXPERIENCEPrevious Library Experience: Experience working in a library or educational setting is often preferred.Knowledge of Library Systems: Familiarity with cataloging systems and databases.Assistance: Helping with library events and programs, such as story time or book clubs.Technical Troubleshooting: Handling minor technical issues, like troubleshooting public computers.SKILLSCustomer Service Skills: Assisting library users with their queries and ensuring a positive experience.Organisational Skills: Managing and organizing library materials efficiently.Basic Computer Skills: Proficiency in using computers and relevant software, including library management systems.Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with patrons and staff.The ability and commitment to:Work in a team environment.Enhance existing knowledge and skills.Readily embrace and implement new technology where appropriate.Work under pressure and manage deadlines.REMUNERATIONTerms and Conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Anglican Schools Commission Inc. NSW Enterprise Agreement 2023.
