Job Description

The key purpose of this role is to deliver effective teaching, learning and caring programs across Years P-6. The successful candidate will provide effective, skilful and sensitive support to students with additional learning needs. This involves the design, development, provision and coordination of a wide range of tailored programs to meet individual needs, both within the classroom, in small group situations and with individual students.You must have experience in providing a range of standardised assessments and be able to interpret results for generalist teaching staff. Experience in providing for the needs of highly able students is a significant advantage. You will also be able to provide competent advice and guidance to classroom teachers about teaching strategies and a wide range of identified disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders, as well as being able to provide regular and timely feedback and advice to the Head of Learning Services about the students with whom you work.This is a fixed part-time (0.6 load), commencing Term 3, 2025 until the 1st week of Term 4, 2025 while the current incumbent goes on long service leave. Our Induction Day is held on the 18 July 2025 and attendance is required.The successful applicant will:Be a qualified and currently registered teacher (VIT registration) and be able to demonstrate suitable tertiary qualifications in teaching and their methods and an accredited qualification in special education or relevant field.Have demonstrated experience working with students in schools with ASD, ADHD, Specific Learning Disabilities and other identified learning needs.MACQLIT literacy intervention training and or a Maths intervention would be beneficial.Have experience with programs for gifted students; this is an advantage.Be willing to be involved in all aspects of the Schools program.Possess strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and interact with both adults and students.Have high level communication skills.Possess skills in adjusting and modifying curriculum to meet individual needs of students.Have confidence in consulting with and guiding colleagues regarding suitable support strategies.Be able to work independently but also as part of a dynamic, creative and collaborative team.Hold a current Anaphylaxis Certificate.Hold a current National Police Check (obtained within the last 6 months).St Michaels Grammar School is one of the leading co-educational, independent schools in Australia, providing exceptional learning opportunities to students from Kindergarten to Year 12.The School is respected for its exceptional education, wellbeing programs and a deep commitment to innovative approaches to teaching, learning and caring.
