Youth Engagement Officer - Alcohol and Other Drugs CounsellorFull Time vacancy (max-term contract for leave coverage till end of December 2025)Location: Newcastle and fortnightly outreach appointments to Cessnock and MaitlandThis role is paid under the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award 2010 - Level 5About the opportunity:Your primary responsibility is to offer person-centered therapeutic support and employ a strengths-based, collaborative approach to assist young individuals in addressing the adverse effects of their alcohol or other drugs use. This role involves supporting the development and delivery of evidence-based therapeutic interventions to promote positive behavioural changes, resilience, strengthen family relationships and healthier lifestyles among youth.About you:Degree Qualification in Psychology, Counselling, Family Therapy, Social Work or equivalentAbility to demonstrate a broad theoretical approach to counsellingDemonstrated understanding and knowledge of substance misuse and the impact this has on individuals and family membersA strong commitment to work with young people from an early intervention perspective to address substance misuseExcellent interpersonal, communication and counselling skillsDemonstrated experience in counselling, child informed practice and knowledge of domestic violence, crisis interventionDemonstrated experience in delivering therapeutic group work and educational programsKnowledge of mental health and AOD services in the HunterDemonstrated experience in networking and stakeholder management5 years experience working professionally as a counsellorCurrent registration with a relevant professional associationThe successful applicant will possess or willingness to obtain the following: NSW Working with Children Check, Criminal history check, Drivers Licence, first aid & CPR certificate and undertake a pre-employment functional medical.Who we are?Formerly known as the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle, Newcastle Anglican is a faith-based organisation serving the people of the Hunter and the Central Coast.We offer a leading Christian presence to our community through our parishes, four schools, Anglican Care and Samaritans.Our vision is for people to flourish because of what we do, inspired by the way of Jesus.We provide a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and welcome all applications.You must have the right to live and work in Australia.Samaritans promotes the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all children and young people. #J-18808-Ljbffr
