The key mission of this role will be to support the use of modelling & analysis to drive value in our operations plans and strategy, tackling some of the toughest industry challenges including demand response and 2030 Real Zero operations. The right candidate will bring a depth of experience and technical skills in simulation-based analysis and modelling for mining and supply chain operations, a strong curiosity and passion for using complex simulation models to derive insights, and skills in communicating complex technical concepts to various operations stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesUse a mix of first principles approaches and dynamic simulation models to assess the impact of changes to our integrated operations, including both major capital and minor capital / productivity initiativesAssess the baseline capacity of our operations as part of our 2-year and 10-year planning processes, and other timescales as requiredDevelop new models and changes to existing models, including verification and validationConduct ad-hoc analysis on a variety of supply chain questions as they ariseManage the simulation experimentation process including defining and managing input sets for baseline, scenarios and sensitivity analysesAnalyse simulation results, including statistical analysis of performance across replications and detailed analysis of operations dynamicsPeriodically validate the models for capacity forecasting, including comparing actual and simulated performance, and identifying changes to data & logicSupport the development and maintenance of supporting toolkits, including input analysis, experimentation management and results analysisAct as a thought partner with business teams and provide problem solving and analytics expertise insightsMentor less experienced team members and train them in use of data tools and methodsProactively drive project outcomes and timelines whether working as an individual contributor or in larger team settingsCommunicate insights and analysis outcomes of results to a range of operations stakeholdersQualifications and ExperienceUndergraduate degree related to mathematics, statistics, engineering or science is required, advanced degree is preferredExperience (4+ years) in simulation modelling & analysis in the mining or heavy industry sectorExperience in simulation modelling of mining operations, processing plant operations, rail operations and port operations (beneficial)Strong collaborative skills and willingness to interact with a range of stakeholdersProgramming experience: Java (or similar statically typed language) and PythonProficiency in statistical methods for simulation modelling, including input and output analysis, and experimental methods for assessing uncertaintyExperience in core data visualisation tasks and tools (one or more of the following):Design visually compelling reportsBuild interactive dashboards and data exploration toolsExperience with R Shiny, Streamlit or other visualisation toolsProficiency in Python / R for model input and output analysis as well as experimentation managementExperience with one or more simulation tools, ideally AnyLogic, is preferredExperience using version control, including GitHub (beneficial)Experience in other operations research techniques (linear programming, combinatorial optimisation) and machine learning (beneficial)About UsBe part of something big.
