Job no: 516388Work type: Fixed term - Full-timeCampus: AdelaideCategories: HEO4, Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology(HEO4) $71,460 - $78,326 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.Fixed term, full-time position for 12 Months.We are seeking a TERN Surveillance Field Officer (TSFO) to be based within the TERN Ecosystem Surveillance team. The Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN) is the national observatory for Australian ecosystems, delivering data streams that enable environmental research and management. TERNs infrastructure is designed to examine Australian ecosystems and ecosystem processes at different scales from targeted monitoring at the local level, through to surveillance monitoring at regional scales, through to continental scale observation and modelling.Working under routine supervision, the TSFO will undertake biodiversity surveillance field surveys following well established protocols. This includes preparing field equipment, vehicles, fuel and camping equipment, and assisting with curation of data, soil samples and plant specimens for delivery to TERN.The position involves interstate and remote travel, including camping in remote locations for extended periods (up to two weeks). When not in the field, the TSFO will spend time facility sorting, cataloguing soil samples and plant specimens, and completing data entry.To be successful you will need:Knowledge of soil and vegetation sampling methodologies and specimen preparation techniques, including field classification and species identification for vegetation samples.Knowledge or experience undertaking remote area operations, incorporating effective communications, navigation, management of health, safety and wellbeing, and the environment.Knowledge or experience using MS Office (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook), and collecting field data digitally.Ability to work in a team environment, and willingness to help others achieve program objectives.Experience operating four-wheel-drive vehicles in various terrains, including basic maintenance, or willingness to undertake relevant training.Enjoy an outstanding career environmentThe University of Adelaide is a uniquely rewarding workplace.
