This newly created position is designed to enhance vascular surgical services across western Victoria, with a particular focus on providing dialysis access care as GH moves toward becoming an independent dialysis access service provider. Candidates with a special interest in this area are encouraged to apply.About the RoleThis role offers the opportunity to meet the increasing demand for vascular surgery in the region, supported by state-of-the-art facilities. GH Ballarat currently boasts six fully equipped operating theatres and two catheter laboratories, with a major redevelopment underway. The new hospitalset for completion in late 2027will feature eight operating theatres and a cutting-edge hybrid theatre, ensuring our ability to meet the needs of a rapidly growing and aging population.In addition to a rewarding public health role, the successful candidate will have the option for private practice rights, with the opportunity to integrate into an established vascular surgery practice that has served the community for nearly 40 years. There is also potential access to St John of God Ballarats catheter laboratory and operating suite for private patient care.This is a fantastic opportunity for a vascular surgeon looking to make a meaningful impact in a growing regional health service while benefiting from a supportive, well-equipped environment.Key responsibilities will include:Once a week outpatients in a combined clinic with the two incumbent surgeons.One half day operating/angiography session per week.Ward rounds and care of inpatients as required.Participation in a high-risk foot clinic weekly MDM case conference on a rotating basis.Occasional audit and administrative duties as requested.The development of the amalgamated service across Grampians Health may require outreach clinics on a rotating basis and possibly outreach surgical sessions in peripheral hospitals in the future.Skills & ExperienceMedical Practitioner who holds a degree registrable with the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria.Postgraduate experience and qualifications in General Surgery which would allow recognition as a specialist under Medicare.Analytical and Conceptual Skills: The ability to research data and information, identify key priorities and objectives; organise information in a logical sequence; including creation of resulting reports appropriate to purpose and audience.Clinical Service: Can demonstrate thorough knowledge of general surgery management and surgical skills in both the elective and emergency situation.CME: Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional development and is able to describe current trends and issues affecting general surgical care.Research: Has some knowledge and is interested in conducting and encouraging local research in general surgery.Interpersonal Skills: Ability to develop positive relationships with health care professionals, providers, carers and patients.Teaching: Demonstrated ability to provide education and training to health care team, medical students and junior medical staff.Communication and Conflict resolution: Ability to communicate well with patients and carers and avoid and deal with conflict should it occur.Resource use: Acknowledge the need for efficient use of medical and surgical resources, equipment and prostheses in the best interests of patients and communities.Interested?Click APPLY or if you wish to discuss the role prior to applying, contact Michael Condous, Clinical Director Surgical & Procedural Services on 03 5320 4000 for a confidential discussion.If you are currently employed at Grampians Health, please ensure you sign in through the ''Employee Login'' via the external Careers Page or access the Careers Page via the Intranet before applying.We''re actively seeking candidates for this role and will review applications as they are submitted.
