The Center Director supervises the Center''s academic programs and serves as the main point of contact with the Center''s partner institutions in Australia. They cultivate a broad range of contacts in Sydney and Australia to benefit the Center and IES Abroad. The Center Director is the main point of contact for the Center with IES Abroad headquarters in Chicago and works in close partnership with the Asia-Pacific (APAC) Dean. The Center Director hires and supervises all staff and faculty members for the Sydney Center and is responsible for the health and safety of the Center''s students. The Center Director serves as the liaison with our partner universities onsitea role which is important given the critical nature of our direct enrol programs to the functioning of the Center. The Center Director also represents IES Abroad and the IES Abroad Sydney Center at IES Abroad meetings, on visits to colleges and universities in the United States, and in discussions of professional organizations and conferences. The IES Abroad Sydney Center Director also collaborates closely with IES Abroad''s Center Directors, as well as staff and faculty throughout the Asia-Pacific Region. They periodically serve on organization-wide committees and task forces.Purpose:To provide academic leadership, pastoral care, and academic support for students taking part in Sydney-based IES Abroad Study Abroad programs.Key Accountabilities:Provide pastoral care and academic support to study abroad students studying through the IES Abroad Sydney Center.Assist with orientation programs and educational workshops.Assist with the coordination and supervision of field trips.Provide recruitment and marketing information to IES Abroad Chicago-based staff.Relationships:Engage with IES Center Directors and other IES networks virtually, including staff across the APAC Cluster.Work with IES Abroad staff, in particular, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs management, Marketing, Risk Management, and other associated departments.Maintain/Assist with the relationships with university partners, housing staff, and other Faculties in which students may enroll.Collaborate with Study Abroad Foundation (SAF) and International Staff in support of SAF programs in Sydney, and maximize synergies between the business units and our student cohorts and university partnerships.Duties:Administration and Program Management.Collaborate with the APAC Dean and AVP for Academic Programs to set measurable goals for the Center each year and evaluate progress toward achieving these goals.Develop and manage the Center''s annual budget and periodic forecasts; approve all Center expenditures; review expenditures monthly and meet all financial deadlines.Strategically plan and manage the Sydney Center staff, with appropriate review and input from the APAC Dean and Academic Affairs leadership, to maximize efficiency in sharing onsite personnel between IES Abroad and SAF in meeting student cohort needs.Coordinate Center operations, administration, special programs, and student affairs with the Program Coordinator and SAF global staff.Ensure collaboration of the Sydney Center with the IES Abroad Customized Programs Department in Chicago, including planning potential programs and administering programs once on-site.Set regular office hours and be available to consult with students.Conduct annual performance appraisals of IES Abroad Sydney staff members.Foster an atmosphere of teamwork, mutual support, and enthusiasm among the IES Abroad staff and peers in the region.In consultation with the APAC Dean, AVP, and Chicago Academic Affairs staff, create/develop new programs, courses, intercultural opportunities, etc., and revise existing ones as needed.Ensure that all Center staff, faculty, and assistants are trained on IES Abroad protocols and policies and adhere to all guidelines.Manage administrative matters such as local legal registration issues, payroll providers, and real estate matters as needed.Academic Management.Provide an ongoing implementation of IES Abroad quality standards based on the IES Abroad MAP series and IES Abroad policies and protocols.Collaborate with the APAC Dean and AVP for Academic Programs to enhance and revise the Center''s academic programs and develop new programs at the Center or with university partners.Ensure the implementation of guidelines and recommendations from the IES Abroad Academic Council and Curriculum Committee.Conduct ongoing evaluations of the Center''s academic programs in Australia and collaborate with the APAC Dean and AVP for Academic Programs to propose and implement suggestions for improvements.Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of all IES Abroad faculty to teach IES Abroad courses, assuring that such hiring meets legal and other requirements in Australia.Supervise the registration of students in courses in partnership with Head Office staff and Program Coordinator.Promote the effective use of educational technology in the classroom and the effective implementation of Moodle in Center-based courses.Maintain a high level of academic integrity at the Center by overseeing the implementation of IES Abroad academic and other policies, grade recording protocols, reviewing, and responding to grade appeals, and assisting students with special educational needs and concerns.Promote professional development opportunities for staff and faculty.Collaborate with colleagues in the APAC Cluster on strategic academic initiatives and other shared interests across Centers.As appropriate, teach courses in consultation with APAC Dean.Communication.Meet regularly via phone or Zoom with the APAC Dean and the Academic Affairs Leadership Team to assess and improve Center-related issues.Stay abreast of academic developments in Australia and the United States to maintain a timely, relevant curriculum in training for faculty and staff to keep the entire Center up to date on these developments.Provide IES Abroad Chicago and SAF global staff with information about the Center regularly, including, but not limited to, financial reports, promotional materials, information about societal and educational trends in Australia, information about labor requirements in Australia, and cultural information.Collaborate with IES Abroad staff in Chicago, fellow IES Abroad Center Directors, colleagues within the APAC Cluster, and other stakeholders on workshops, training seminars, intercultural projects, and other strategic initiatives defined in collaboration with the APAC Dean, Academic Affairs leadership, and senior management in Chicago.Prepare the materials for the annual report of IES Abroad Sydney Center.Outreach, Public Relations, and Marketing.Develop and directly maintain strong partnerships with local partner universities and institutions. Serve as the chief facilitator of communications with local partners supporting our academic programming in Sydney and interested parties at the IES Abroad Chicago office.Represent IES Abroad Sydney Center before local and regional Australian authorities and in the local community.Actively participate in the IES Abroad Annual Conference and Center Directors'' meetings, including making presentations as requested.Represent the IES Abroad Sydney Center on visits to colleges and universities to educate faculty and staff on the Sydney Center''s programs and the mission, goals, and practices of IES Abroad.Collaborate with IES Abroad staff in Chicago and the APAC Dean on marketing materials, pre-departure materials, visa support materials, and other student materials.Student Life.Coordinate with the Program Coordinator to arrange and lead the on-site orientation of students to Sydney, the IES Abroad Center, and local partner institutions.Supervise staff in creating student activities, field trips, and field studies, ensuring the intercultural effectiveness and relevance of field trips and field studies to the IES Abroad and Center missions and academic goals.Facilitate cultural, linguistic, and social exchanges between IES Abroad and SAF student cohorts, when possible.Ensure the quality of housing for students; source, assess and improve housing options, and deal with problems as they arise.Enforce IES Abroad discipline policies where necessary.Emergency Response and Crisis ManagementDesign, review/revise, and implement local crisis management plans per IES Abroad policy.Conduct emergency drills each term in collaboration with the IES Abroad Crisis Management Team.Oversee management of 24/7 telephone emergency coverage to respond to student emergencies.Respond rapidly to student crises by accessing local resources and coordinating with the IES Abroad Crisis Management Team, the Dean of Students Office, APAC Dean and the AVP for Academic Programs, and others where appropriate.Proactively notify the IES Abroad Crisis Management Team, Dean of Students office, and AVP for Academic Programs of local emergencies or areas of concern that may affect the safety of IES Abroad students, staff, and faculty.Requirements:Advanced degree in a relevant academic discipline (STEM, business, humanities, social sciences, etc.).5 to 10 years of progressively responsible managerial experience.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Familiarity with the nature, organization, and customs of higher education in Australia and the U.S.Ability to work well with students from U.S. colleges and universities.Native/Near-native fluency in English.Excellent administrative, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.Excellent team-building skills.Interest in the academic and intercultural growth of university students.Student-centered philosophy and sensitivity to issues of diversity.Must be able to lawfully accept employment in Australia at the time an offer of employment is extended.Ability to travel throughout Australia and the region and to the U.S. on occasion.First Aid qualified and hold a current driver''s license.Ability to work limited odd hours when dealing with an emergency.Preferred:Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.Relevant management experience in a study abroad program and prior contact with U.S. university students.Teaching experience at the university level.Experience in the development and management of complex budgets; not-for-profit budget management experience.Strong commitment to international education, intercultural issues, and a strong interest in student affairs.Background check required. #J-18808-Ljbffr
