Veteran Family Advocate Commissioner - Repatriation CommissionIn this statutory office, you will be a member of the Repatriation Commission and a member of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission. You will actively develop and foster productive relationships across Government and the veterans community, including the Department of Defence, ex-service organisations and organisations representing the interests of veterans families. Your close engagement with families will include a focus on suicide prevention and the broader wellbeing of veterans and families, especially during and after their transition from the Australian Defence Force. Your overriding objective will be to give a voice to veterans families and the important role they play in veteran and family health and wellbeing.To be a strong contender for this appointment, you will need to be an outstanding advocate with an impressive record of achievement, preferably gained in a complex and politically sensitive environment. You will preferably have lived experience with veterans families. Your ability to provide timely and robust advice to Ministers and your passion for delivering transformational change will be complemented by well-honed analytical and policy advisory skills, exceptional communication and representational capabilities, relevant stakeholder engagement experience and a personal style that engenders trust and respect.The Commissioner will:Be a member of the Repatriation Commission and Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission and ensure that all statutory policy and administrative functions of the Commissions are informed by the potential impacts on veteran and serving members families.Actively develop and foster productive relationships across Government and the veterans community, including the Department of Defence, ex-service organisations, and particularly with organisations and individuals representing the interests of veterans families.Provide strategic advice on policy and service delivery issues affecting the veterans families to the President of the Repatriation Commission (who is also the Secretary of DVA), the Minister for Veterans Affairs and the Defence and Veteran Services Commissioner. This advice will be directly informed by the relationships and engagement set out above.Attend and contribute to representational and commemorative duties, including attending national stakeholder and state-based meetings and congresses.On a day-to-day basis, the Commissioner will engage with, consider and examine issues relating to veterans families.EligibilityThe successful candidate:It is also expected that the successful candidate will have:NotesThis recruitment process is being used to fill statutory appointment position/s.
