About QByte StudiosQByte Studios is an independent game development studio based in Victoria, Australia. Were currently working on Nanites, a third-person action-builder survival game inspired by Fortnite: Save the World, Lethal Company, and Days Gone.Set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by deadly nanotechnology, Nanites blends immersive storytelling, intense action, and strategic survival gameplay. Were a passionate team dedicated to delivering high-quality experiences while fostering a collaborative and fun culture.Role OverviewWere looking for a skilled Head Animator to take the reins on the animation pipeline for Nanites. As the Head Animator, you will be responsible for both animating and overseeing the animation team, ensuring consistency in quality, style, and execution. Youll be instrumental in maintaining the overall animation vision for the game while providing leadership and feedback to ensure a cohesive animation experience.This is a contractor role with full flexibility on hours and location, as long as youre producing top-notch results.What Youll Be DoingLeading the animation team and overseeing the animation pipeline for Nanites, ensuring that all animations align with the games visual direction.Creating high-quality character, creature, and environmental animations for gameplay, cutscenes, and narrative-driven moments.Providing feedback to animators, ensuring consistency in animation quality and style across all assets.Reviewing and approving animations to guarantee they meet both artistic and technical standards.Collaborating with design and art teams to integrate animations seamlessly into gameplay.Setting clear animation goals and guiding the team to meet those objectives.Mentoring junior animators and providing constructive feedback to improve their work.What Were Looking ForStrong animation skills with expertise in 3D character and creature animation.Experience in both hands-on animation work and overseeing the work of others, ensuring consistency and high-quality output.Familiarity with animation workflows in a dark sci-fi and post-apocalyptic art style.Experience with keyframe animation, motion capture data cleaning, and procedural animation techniques.Proficiency in industry-standard animation software (e.g., Maya, Blender, etc.).Strong leadership skills and experience in guiding a team to deliver consistent, high-quality results.Ability to work closely with the art, design, and programming teams to ensure animations are integrated smoothly into the game.Good communication skills and the ability to take feedback constructively.Comfortable signing a contractor agreement (legal stuff, you know how it is).Industry TransparencyWe understand concerns about unpaid work in the game industry and are committed to fairness and transparency:All contributors are independent contractors.We currently do not generate revenue, but contributors will be compensated based on the net revenue-sharing model once revenue is generated.Additional NotesApplicants aged 14-17 will need a signed parental consent form.This is a contractor role, not a traditional jobwork as much or as little as you want.While this is an unpaid position for now, we fully intend to compensate all contributors if the studio generates revenue.Bonus Points (Not Required, but Nice to Have)Experience with character animation in a post-apocalyptic or sci-fi setting.Familiarity with Unreal Engine 5 animation workflows.A passion for gritty, atmospheric world-building.Experience leading or managing a team of animators.Forget Boring Interviews We Play Games Instead!We hate the usual email/call interviews.
