The Wardliparingga Aboriginal Health Equity Theme (AHE) at SAHMRI is a leading national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led unit dedicated to wellbeing and achieving health equity among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia through high quality and culturally safe health and medical research.We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at Wardliparingga. This position provides an exciting opportunity to work with our team on research projects focused on racism and its association with chronic disease and social emotional wellbeing. In this role, you will conduct and contribute to high quality mixed-methods research in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health that leads to improved health and social outcomes for the population. Under the direction of the Program Lead, Social and Emotional Wellbeing, the position will support the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Research Program to undertake rigorous research to a high standard.About the RoleKey responsibilities include:Embedding Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing into the research including doing research in a way that upholds Aboriginal community protocols.Supporting, and being supported by, the Program Lead to implement research activities, including development, coordination, recruitment, and reporting.Providing high-quality research to successfully achieve research milestones and outputs.Preparing resources to ensure that collaborating organisations, research partners and Chief Investigators remain engaged and informed.Lead the preparation of ethics applications, service and site agreements, reporting and study documentation and dissemination of research outputs and outcomes.Promote scholarship and integrity, and support a culture of excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research.Foster and support local, national, and international links and strategic collaborative relationships with relevant research institutions, universities and community bodies including health and workforce services and government collaborators, that build understanding and skills to assist in the advancement of research objectives.Communicate research findings and assist with the development and implementation of knowledge translation activities, within high impact peer-reviewed journals, at conferences and within committees and other bodies relevant to the role.Rigorous research including project establishment, community engagement, data collection, analysis, reporting and knowledge translation.Produce high-quality research documentation and manuscripts for publication and conference presentations.Develop and maintain relationships with external partners that are critical to the successful development, implementation, and translation of research.Help with the development of competitive grant applications for related work.The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:A doctoral degree in Public Health, Psychology, Epidemiology, or a related discipline.Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal communities.Experienced researcher with skills and knowledge in all stages of the research process including ethics applications, reporting against milestones, presentation preparation and delivery, preparing and working within budgets.Knowledge, experience, and skills in a range of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.Experience in working within a research team, as well as taking the lead on research projects.Ability to take direction and support members of the team to carry out research activities and achieve milestones.Demonstrated academic writing ability.An ability to enhance the research profile of the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Program by conducting research and scholarly activity, independently and as a member of a team.Demonstrated high level organisational skills to manage competing demands and meet project timelines together with sound problem-solving skills.High-level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information effectively and clearly to a wide audience.Special RequirementsIdentify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.Some out of hours work may be required.DCSI Employment Screening will be required.SAHMRI considers that being Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under sub-s 56(2) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA).
