The department is committed to keeping Queensland communities safe, supporting victims, and actively tackling the complex causes of youth crime and targeting serious repeat offenders.In Youth Justice, you will have the opportunity to work together with people, partners, and across places to enable young Queenslanders, especially the most vulnerable, to have positive life choices and opportunities.TARGETED VACANCY - For this position, it is a genuine occupational requirement that it be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as permitted and arguable under Sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.As a Detention Youth Worker (Courts) - Identified, you will be responsible for making sure young people are kept safe and well while they are in the cells area of the Brisbane Courts Precinct.You Will Be Someone Who:Encourages young people to make good decisions by promoting and reinforcing positive behaviour to help them integrate back into the community.Helps young people understand court outcomes and follow the rules of the cells area of the Brisbane Courts Precinct.Is a young person they can go to if they need someone to talk to.Can deliver activities that are sensitive to gender, cultural beliefs, and health needs.Conducts regular observations, welfare checks, and searches on young people and reports concerns or issues in accordance with policy.Oversees young people''s release from custody in accordance with the court''s decision and legal documentation.As necessary, you will also be required to manage the challenging behaviours of some young people and use physical restraint on young people for their own protection and others. You will be trained in the approved use of force.This role is designated as regulated employment as the position provides support services to children and young people, and therefore will require a valid Blue Card to be linked with the organisation prior to starting.Applications to remain current for 12 months.Occupational group: Justice & Legal #J-18808-Ljbffr
