So this is a unique career opportunity to be part of our epic growth story.The OpportunityWe are searching for a Director of Engineering to lead the technical evolution of our high-traffic e-commerce platform, spanning web and mobile experiences. This role demands a unique combination of strategic leadership and a genuine love for engineering. You''ll be responsible for defining and executing the technical roadmap, nurturing a talented team, and, when needed, rolling up your sleeves to contribute directly through POC development or hands-on problem-solving. Your passion for technology will be the driving force behind our platform''s scalability, performance, and continuous innovation.What Youll Be DoingStrategic & Technical Leadership:Develop and execute the engineering roadmap, aligning with business objectives and product strategies for our e-commerce platform (web and mobile)Own and deeply understand the platform''s architecture and technology stack, ensuring its scalability, performance, and securityDrive technical excellence through code reviews, architecture decisions, and adherence to best practicesProactively manage technical debt and ensure scalable, maintainable codeLead the implementation of cutting-edge technologies, including AI-assisted e-commerce solutionsStay abreast of the latest industry trends and technologies, applying them to enhance the platformTeam Leadership & Collaboration:Lead a hybrid team of 20 engineers (frontend, backend, QA) across Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performanceProvide mentorship and guidance to engineering team members, fostering their professional growth and developmentCollaborate closely with Product Management, UX/UI, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutionsEnsure seamless integration of new features and enhancementsFoster strong communication and collaboration between engineering and cross-functional teamsImplement and maintain Agile methodologiesPlatform Operations & Excellence:Ensure the platform''s performance, scalability, and securityImplement rigorous testing processes and observability metrics to maintain high standards of qualityOptimise the platform for high traffic and performanceEnsure the security and integrity of customer dataChampion digital best practices across website, mobile app, email, content management, and asset managementYour Ideal Skills & ExperienceProven experience in delivering high-performance, high-traffic websites and mobile applications in the consumer spaceExperience in a startup or high-growth environment, demonstrating adaptability and a ''wear many hats'' mentalityFull-stack development experience with a broad range of technologies, including backend services, web applications, mobile apps, and CI/CD toolsStrong understanding of digital consumer tools and platforms (website, email, CMS, AMS)Extensive knowledge of cloud architecture (AWS or Google Cloud)Proven experience leading and managing teams of 10+ engineersExperience leading remote engineering teamsProficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and JavaExperience with Agile methodologiesExperience with CommerceTools or other composable architectures would be beneficialFamiliarity with AI code generation tools such as Cursor would be beneficialOur Ideal Candidate will have the above and...A strong engineering mindset, with a passion for problem-solvingA genuine love for engineering, with a desire to occasionally contribute directly through POC development or hands-on problem-solvingAbility to bring out the best in a team and encourage them to improve and innovate.
