Funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care, the units responsibilities are to report on targets to reduce the number of young people in residential aged care over the next 2 years to 2026 and to undertake a range of aged care data improvement activities to support the national aged care data system to provide timely, reliable and comprehensive information that is responsive to the needs of various users in the system.About the positionThe Aged Care and Data Improvement Unit is seeking a skilled Project Officer / Data Analyst. This role requires a well-rounded applicant with project management experience, organisational skills, communication skills and a solid understanding of analytical concepts.This position will be offered at either the APS5 or APS6 classification, dependent on the skills and experience the applicant demonstrates for the role.As the APS5 Project Officer / Data Analyst you will work under general direction to:Undertake a range of research, design, project planning or development tasks to deliver required outcomes/outputs.Apply conceptual understanding to ensure new data are robust.Undertake or contribute to the analysis of data and the preparation of reports, publications, papers and submissions.Contribute to the planning, organising and managing of projects.Manage and work collaboratively as a member of a team to projects and/or activities.Represent the AIHW at meetings, conferences or seminars and liaise with people both inside and outside the AIHW as relevant to the above duties.As the APS6 Project Officer / Data Analyst you will be required to complete the above-mentioned duties and perform work that is more complex in nature, working under limited direction with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability.Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and knowledge:Well-developed research and comprehension skills, including ability to synthesise complex information to produce high quality written work.Demonstrated experience effectively planning and managing projects.Strong conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to understand complex concepts and apply it to data.Well-developed communication skills including ability to work well with others in a project team, and to communicate, liaise, and negotiate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders within the scope of the role.Demonstrated ability to work independently and to effectively plan and manage and prioritise ones workload and escalate issues when required.Also desirable are:At least 2 or more years experience in a data or analytical role.Experience in one or more statistical programming languages such as SAS, R, etc.In addition to the above, our ideal APS6 candidate will demonstrate the ability to work on high level complex work. You will demonstrate the ability to lead a small team of technical staff, mentoring members of a team, and managing team deliverables and priorities.
