SHIFT works from a person-centred approach and within a harm reduction model.Join a dedicated team providing exceptional support to young people working to achieve their AOD goals and build brighter, more stable futures.An exciting opportunity has become available to join Mission Australia as an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Outreach Worker in Northbridge. The role will contribute to the positive outcomes of young people who are at risk of or are experiencing AOD and AOD-related mental health issues or other co-occurring complexities through assertive outreach, brief intervention, case management, AOD counselling, and group facilitation.This role will attract an AOD practitioner who is passionate about working with at-risk young people, is experienced in providing assertive outreach and working within harm-reduction and AOD treatment models.Your Key ResponsibilitiesProvide brief intervention and support to young people at youth drop-in services.Complete assessments and intake processes for allocated people, including all necessary paperwork and data entry.Provide AOD Counselling sessions with young people in line with best practice AOD approaches and theories.Deliver assertive AOD outreach to disengaged and or high-risk young people including referral to SHIFT case management.Work with young people to develop holistic and strength-based support plans.Make referrals and work collaboratively with other specialist support services to support young people to achieve their individual goals.Provide one on one and group interventions using a person-centred approach and working within harm reduction and AOD treatment models.Maintain professional and up to date client records and data, in line with Mission Australia policy and procedure.Complete a range of other administrative duties for the efficient running of the service.Requirements for SuccessWith a significant background in the child, youth & family, social work, health, human services, or other social science disciplines, you will be confident in your AOD Counselling, Case Management, assessment and trauma informed practices. Other requirements include:A Degree or Diploma in Youth Work, Addiction Studies and related disciplines or a minimum of one years experience in a similar role.Demonstrated assertive outreach work experience in engaging and supporting young people experiencing alcohol and other drug use issues including working with intoxicated young people and people experiencing homelessness.Experience and ability to work with at risk young people including knowledge of child and adolescent development.Documented experience providing case coordination, assessment, AOD counselling, and crisis intervention, including with people experiencing alcohol and other drug use issues, mental health issues, personal crisis, and families in crisis.Perseverance, flexibility, and innovation when providing outreach support to vulnerable young people.Proven professionalism working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities with strong knowledge of community protocols.Computer skills in Microsoft Office, and ability to adopt Mission Australias web-based Information Management systems (training will be provided).Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including report writing.Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.Full driver licence with no restrictions.Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.Our CultureOur innovative and inclusive culture will ensure you feel valued at Mission Australia as you help Australians in need and develop in your career.We prioritise the safety and wellbeing of everyone, both within our team and the individuals we serve.We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive working environment.
