Exposure to, and involvement in, the creative and performing arts plays a big role in helping us to achieve this vision.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking expressions of interest for local Artists who may be interested in undertaking a residency at our School in 2025.The Artist in Residence will be provided with a dedicated studio space, a residency stipend and access to resources/equipment and volunteers from our active and supportive Friends of Art Committee. In return, the School is seeking an Artist in Residence who will create a piece of art (form, size and location to be mutually agreed) as the centrepiece of their residency legacy contribution to the school.We would like the earlier stages of your legacy artwork to include some collaboration with Junior School students as part of their Art Curriculum. You must be prepared to commit at least 10 hours per term to collaborate with Junior School Art classes during Terms 1, 2 and 3 2024 (a total of 30 hours commitment) under guidance from the Junior School Art Teacher. All materials required for this piece will be provided by the School.The Artist in Residence must also be prepared to commit to 10 hours per term in Secondary School Art classes during Terms 1, 2 and 3 2024 (a total of 30 hours commitment). This time will be under the direct supervision of the Head of Art, Years 7-12 and in an advisory or mentoring capacity with our Senior Students.As this is a voluntary opportunity, the School will provide the successful applicant with:a studio space with open access during normal school hours, for the duration of the residency;a Residency stipend;a Welcome morning tea hosted by the BGS Friends of Art Committee;the support of the BGS Friends of Art Committee to organise an exhibition, at the end of the residency tenure;where requested by the Artist, assistance from Friends of Art volunteers;an opportunity to apply for and be involved in the Schools Capstone Artist-in-Residence program, working with a select group of Secondary School students on an artwork as a service project.
