After becoming a PCO, you may be able to progress to a supervising police custody officer (SPCO) role.A career as an SPCO gives you an opportunity to be a leader in the custody area.Supervising police custody officer rolesSPCOs oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operations of a team of PCOs.You will be a valued member of the local police team. You will also play a crucial role in the management and welfare of persons in custody.As part of this role, you will:supervise and coordinate the day-to-day operations of a team of PCOsmonitor the quality PCO servicesoversee the health, wellbeing, safety and supervision of persons in custodycarry out prisoner management functions for more complex prisonersmonitor, supervise and undertake administrative and personnel functionsprovide leadership, mentoring, performance management and coordination of training activitiesgive evidence in court when required.Supervising PCOs are stationed at 17 locations around Victoria.Work hoursPCOs work across 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
