No matter where youre from youll feel at home in this cosmopolitan community, where different lifestyles, aspirations and talents are welcomed. 155,000 residents speak 138 different languages, embrace 37 different faiths, and celebrate their citys rich cultural diversity.Reporting to the Manager City Safety & Compliance, the Prosecutions Officer will manage and deliver the Councils prosecution functions to ensure compliance with statutory obligations and efficient service delivery. Ensuring the accuracy of the Councils prosecution databases, preparing court briefs and reports to meet legal standards, and representing the Council at VCAT and Magistrates Court are essential parts of this role. Through effective presentation of cases to achieve optimal outcomes, the Prosecutions Officer will ensure all actions comply with relevant legislation. Responding to inquiries and supporting the implementation of new systems and policies are key responsibilities of this role.To be considered for the role, you will have a deep understanding and practical experience of legislation, and ideally have experience in the Planning and Environment Act 1987, Councils Local Law, the Darebin Planning Scheme, and the Domestic Animals Act 1994.You have knowledge of VCAT and Magistrates Court procedures, as well as excellent communication skills to prepare detailed reports and provide legal advice to various stakeholders.With strong analytical and decision-making skills, you will assess evidence and make informed decisions in complex cases. With strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities, you can prioritize and handle multiple tasks efficiently. A tertiary qualification in law, legislative compliance, enforcement or related discipline with several years experience, or a higher qualification with specialised experience, or less formal qualification(s) with substantial experience in a relevant field is required.To apply, please click apply now and upload your CV and Cover Letter.
