AIMS expert teams at our locations in Townsville, Darwin and Perth have access to world-class infrastructure, unique datasets, cutting-edge laboratories, and a fleet of modern research vessels.About this exciting opportunityAs AIMS Field Technician you will be a member of the NT Coastal and marine ecosystem team who work to deliver Oceanographic, Ecological and Coastal monitoring projects in the Northern Territory, and be responsible for the operation, deployment and maintenance of AIMS equipment, instrumentation and remote observing equipment in support of scientific research in field environments. You will collaborate with government, industry and Indigenous stakeholders to further knowledge of NT coastal ecosystems.You will participate in field trips on small and large vessels and provide management and maintenance of field-deployed and vessel-based scientific equipment and instruments to ensure all safety and legal standards are met and requirements for precision, accuracy and reliability are achieved. You will also provide assistance in the maintenance and operation of the Darwin-based fleet of small research vessels as well as the aquarium system when required.About youYou will have considerable demonstrated experience in vessel-based fieldwork, particularly in small boats in remote areas and the ability to work at sea in often demanding conditions for extended periods. You will hold a Coxswains ticket and Radio Operators licence (VHF) and current C Class Open Drivers Licence.You will demonstrate technical expertise in the operation, deployment and maintenance of marine-deployed instrumentation and remote observing equipment that is underpinned by a trade, engineering or tertiary qualifications.Our ideal candidate will have familiarity with the operation, acquisition, quality control and processing of outputs from Multibeam Echo sounders and other acoustic equipment and a forklift Licence, First Aid and CPR (or the ability to obtain).Apply now and join a world leading organisation with attractive working conditions.
