In addition to the activities below, from time to time you may be asked to undertake tasks that are outside your usual span of duties but that are within the range of your capabilities. Supporting one another in this way provides opportunities for exposure across the agency and is an integral part of the NACCs positive workplace culture.Operations LegalThe Operations Legal Team supports corruption investigations and public inquiries. Operations lawyers assist the Commissioner to progress investigations in a range of matters across the Commonwealth by providing legal services on various legal issues, including advising on the use of investigative and coercive powers.Key activities of this position include:assisting with the progression of investigations by providing legal advice, assisting with warrant applications, and drafting investigation reports.advising on preliminary investigations and corruption investigations, including the use of investigative and coercive powers under the National Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2022 (Cth) and related laws, including the Crimes Act 1914 (Cth), Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 (Cth) and the Surveillance Devices Act 2004 (Cth).instructing or appearing as Counsel Assisting in coercive hearings.contributing to the development of legal policy and legislative reform.assessing and responding to Freedom of Information requests in accordance with applicable legislation.contributing to legal knowledge within the NACC and jurisdictional agencies through a commitment to continued legal education and training.representing the interests of the NACC and helping to manage the NACCs relationships with relevant stakeholders, internally and externally.Corporate LegalThe Corporate Legal Team is responsible for the variety of legal work of the Commission that is not related to specific investigations or public inquiries.Key activities of this position include:advising the Evaluations Branch about referrals including in relation to jurisdictional issues.providing legal advice in relation to workplace relations, governance, administrative law, and privacy matters.advising on the Commissions delegations and authorisations.advising on legal reporting requirements.advising on statutory interpretation and compliance.assessing and responding to Freedom of Information requests in accordance with applicable legislation.contributing to the preparation and revision of internal processes, procedures and guidance material to facilitate the work of the legal branch and other areas of the Commission.contributing to the development of legal policy and legislative reform.contributing to legal knowledge within the NACC and jurisdictional agencies through a commitment to continued legal education and training.representing the interests of the NACC and helping to manage the NACCs relationships with relevant stakeholders, internally and externally.Occasionally, Senior Lawyers may also be asked to advise on contract and commercial matters. However, this does not represent a significant part of the role and experience in these areas is not essential.EligibilityEmployment with the NACC is subject to the following conditions:Citizenship applicants must be an Australian Citizen.Security clearance this is a Designated Security Assessment Position. The occupant of this position will be required to undergo and maintain a security clearance to Negative Vetting 1.Suitability assessment - the NACC must be satisfied that successful applicants are of suitable character.
