Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Electrolytic and Thermal Solvent Regeneration for Direct Air CapturePosition Number: 0065065Location: ParkvilleRole type: Full-time; Fixed-term for 12 months potential to extendFaculty: Engineering and Information TechnologySchool: Chemical and Biomedical EngineeringSalary: Academic Level A $83,468 - $113,262 p.a. plus 17% superAbout the RoleThe Research Fellow will contribute to the University of Melbournes partnership with KC8 Capture Technologies (kc8capture.com), advancing innovative carbon capture solutions through the KC8 ReDeFINE program. This role will focus on developing and testing two distinct methods for regenerating potassium carbonate/bicarbonate streams to recover CO2 at sub-atmospheric pressure one using electrolytic methods and the other through high-temperature thermal processes. The successful candidate will construct small-scale electrolysis and thermal regeneration units, conduct experiments, and generate critical data to support the scale-up of these technologies.Your responsibilities will include:Independently planning and carrying out research on the research project and working towards completion of the aims of the project.Conducting experiments with accuracy and reproducibility.Reviewing literature and developing experimental methodology to achieve research outcomes.Developing effective timelines and milestones based on goals of the research program.Who We Are Looking ForThe successful candidate will be a proactive and adaptable researcher with excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to engage with industry partners to drive impactful outcomes. They will demonstrate strong organisational abilities, working independently to manage data, prioritise tasks, and meet project objectives in a fast-paced environment.You will also have:A postgraduate research degree at PhD level (or near completion) in chemical engineering or electrochemistry.A record of high-quality research as evidenced by publications in leading journals and at conferences commensurate with opportunity.Ability to work with industry partners to achieve applied outcomes and to work with others across the sector to achieve industry impact and sector transformation.Experience in working with minimal supervision and ability to prioritise tasks to achieve project objectives within timelines, demonstrating flexibility to flourish in a fast-paced environment.This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn''t have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
