Senior Regulatory Economist Ongoing, full-time opportunity Salary starting from $141,830 plus 15% superannuation Our team Our Economic Regulation Division is made up of a small, professional, and dedicated team working across the electricity and gas businesses in the ActewAGL Joint Venture. We provide strategic and economic regulatory advice that helps shape critical investments in the ACTs energy sector and navigate the opportunities of the energy transition. Our team performs diverse and impactful work covering the ACTs electricity and gas networks including pricing, regulatory reviews, policy and strategy. The team has a rare opportunity for a collaborative, highly motivated and analytically focussed individual to come onboard and be a part of the ACTs leading pathway to electrification. The opportunity Reporting to the Group Manager Regulatory Pricing and Analysis, this role requires a passion for quantitative analysis and an eagerness for problem solving and strategic thinking. It offers a chance to apply and grow your analytical and modelling expertise while contributing to ActewAGLs strategic objectives in the evolving energy landscape. You will play a key role in providing expert advice on pricing for electricity and gas network services and other economic regulatory matters impacting the energy industry. Strong analytical and quantitative skills, combined with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders, are essential to succeed in this role. A day in the life will include supporting the Group Manager with: Developing regulatory pricing models, strategies and solutions that address the opportunities and challenges of electrifying the energy supply and the rise of distributed energy resources (such as rooftop solar and battery storage). Designing and refining tariff structures for the gas and electricity networks through detailed analysis, modelling and research including customer preferences and behaviours, bill impacts, and efficient utilisation of the energy networks. Conducting annual pricing updates by undertaking analysis, preparing models, producing submissions to the regulator, and developing pricing materials for customers and other stakeholders. Performing quantitative analysis to inform strategies on key economic regulatory matters affecting the electricity and gas networks. Collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders on regulatory pricing and finance reviews and other matters. About You Are you a problem-solver with a passion for numbers and turning complex data into clear, actionable insights? Do you have relevant tertiary qualifications in economics, finance, commerce, science/maths or a related discipline? Do you have experience applying quantitative approaches to real-world challenges for example having worked in consulting, government, or industry? Do you enjoy communicating complex information in a way thats easy to understand through intuitive charts, tables, and compelling narratives? If so, were looking for someone like you! A detailed understanding of economic regulation in the utilities sector is a plus, but not essential. Experience in applying microeconomic theory in a commercial or regulated context would also be highly valued.
