Add expected salary to your profile for insightsThe Director, Operations is a hands-on role, responsible for the overall management of the Institute''s infrastructure (research and non-research), animal facilities and other specialised research facilities at the Lowy Packer Building, Darlinghurst. Key responsibilities include ensuring the Institute''s infrastructure is fit for purpose, meets all relevant regulations, standards and WHS guidelines, and are managed in accordance with the Institute''s Values and Strategic Plan. The responsibilities also include overseeing the efficient operation of a number of essential shared services, servicing our co-located precinct partners, Garvan Institute of Medical Research and St Vincent''s Centre for Applied Medical Research (AMR).The roleThe role will be responsible for delivering an excellent experience to both internal and external stakeholders. As well as working collaboratively with the broader Operations Department at the Institute, it will involve working collaboratively with our partners across the Precinct and other external partners, including universities and other medical research institutes.Reporting to the Deputy CEO the position will work closely with the Institute Director/CEO, the Co-Deputy Directors, Faculty Members and Operations Department Managers.What we will trust you withInstitute InfrastructureLead and support facilities management to ensure the Institute''s buildings operate effectively and efficiently.Oversee facilities management, implementing change management for expansion and maintaining best practices for reactive and planned maintenance.BioCORE Facility & Translational FacilityEnsure BioCORE Operations follow best practices and regulatory compliance.Manage infrastructure and facilities in line with the Strategic Plan, meeting research, governance, and compliance needs.Oversee operational and capital budgets managed by direct reports, following Institute''s Delegation of Authority and budget approval processes.Manage expenditure through business cases, forecasting, and reporting.Oversee incident management, monitor risk management, and ensure business continuity planning.Collaborate with key partners on cross-functional crisis management practices.Ensure contractors adhere to the Institute''s management protocols.Implement and manage a supplier due diligence framework aligning with the Institute''s environmental, social, and governance goals.Other Key Areas of ResponsibilityStrategic PlanningSustainabilityLeadershipDoes this sound like you?Qualification in Business Management, Executive Leadership (postgraduate desirable), and a related field like Facilities, Project, or Construction Management.Extensive experience in facility management focusing on operational and financial efficiency, preferably in a medical or health facility.Proven leadership and team development, with a focus on performance-based and stakeholder-focused work culture.Expertise in business management, budgeting, planning, reporting, and all aspects of project management, including handling multiple projects with conflicting deadlines.Skilled in negotiating and implementing supplier and contract service agreements.Well-developed analytical skills and the ability to develop practical solutions.Able to develop strong working relationships with people at all levels of the organisation and excellent stakeholder management.Experience in leading teams collaboratively (desirable).Experience in management of change processes (desirable).About usThe Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (the Institute) is dedicated to finding cures for cardiovascular disease and is one of the most respected heart research facilities in the world.
