The Commission commenced on 31 December 2024.The Commission can receive, manage, and resolve allegations of parliamentary misconduct and inappropriate parliamentary workplace behaviour. This includes receiving complaints of bullying, harassment, discrimination, victimisation and occupational violence and aggression.The Senior Legal Officer provides high quality legal and strategic advice and support across the Commission''s functions, including for investigations, complaints handling, alternative dispute resolution and natural justice processes. The Senior Legal Officer will work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, providing legal advice and guidance to ensure the Commission meets its broader legislative and compliance requirements.You will also be well-versed in regulatory law, administrative law, investigations, complaints handling, and/or alternative dispute resolution, including sound knowledge of the requirements of Commissions and other public bodies.This is a unique opportunity to make a significant contribution to a new integrity commission with oversight of parliamentary workplace standards.About youAs our ideal candidate you will have:Demonstrated technical experience or ability in providing technically excellent advice on complex legal issues, preferably in relation to regulatory law, administrative law, investigations, alternate dispute resolution, complaints handling and/or investigative strategy. Demonstrated ability to successfully perform a leadership role in a legal setting.Highly developed interpersonal, oral communication, and negotiation skills. Excellent written communication skills and ability to synthesise complex information and strong ability to communicate with empathy and a trauma-informed lens.Strong collaboration and teamwork and ability to guide others to create a culture of collaboration within a multidisciplinary team and identify areas for skill building across the team and creates learning opportunities to openly share knowledge and expertise.Sound political and organisational context and demonstrated understanding of at least one relevant context area, including public sector ethics and integrity, government administration, parliamentary processes, workplace relations and/or gender-based violence.Excellent problem-solving and strategic thinking including high level analytical, strategic and critical thinking and ability to apply sound judgement to complex problems by considering multiple perspectives.Experience and qualificationsBachelor of Laws or equivalent legal qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.Current practising certificate under the Legal Profession Uniform Law, or eligibility to acquire a practising certificate.Admission to practice as an Australian Lawyer and/or at least 5 years post-admission experience desirable.How to apply:Apply before the advertised closing date, all applications should include:a resumea cover letter which addresses the key selection criteria (within three pages)This position is only open to applicants with relevant rights to work in Australia.Other relevant information:Preferred candidates will be required to complete a Pre-employment Declaration and Consent form.
